you readers have to read the previous post first. i know its kind of long, but its fun to read, i think.

so today sufi, fardly and i, with denyse and atiqah, decided to revisit the places we went yesterday, with a camera this time round. but i came late and joined them halfway. i started my journey this time at sophia road, skipping bencoolen street. now let the pictures do the talking.

cheers.

title: espacades!
time: 1:49 PM

imagine this. it all started one early morning. this person had the choice to walk out of his house either through the front or the back. by going through the front, he could also pick up his camera as it was placed on a table by the front door. but he chooses to exit through the back, not getting his camera and taking a different turn. and that decision may be his best decision ever, or just deserved to be kicked in the ass. lets get back to that shall we.

AKA a.k.a. a.k.a. were at it again. i met up with sufi and fardly at city hall after i was done with my malay wedding show at bukit batok. we had our early dinner at long john silvers, where sufi kind of pissing the manager off with his whining of tartar sauce being charged extra, and then proceeded to walk to town. and so the turns began.

the turns. we were facing smu and by walking straight, we would have reached plaza singapura. but since we intended to go to orchard, we turned right and walked down to bencoolen, where it felt like a mini-china. along the way, we saw a gallery called ketarpang gallery. it was closed though, but it had a bar there. very nice place to cool down on a hot day. but we didnt stayed and proceeded down the street, before turning left. then a traffic light came about and the turns took place again. we were facing a centre, i think it was peace centre or so, and had two choices after crossing the traffic light. turn left, walk straight and the cathay wil be there. or we could walk straight uphill after the traffic light. mind you our destination was still orchard. but instead of turning left, we walked straight uphill, just to explore. we ended up on sophia street, and the houses, condos, private houses were beautiful. minimalistic was the word fardly and sufi kept using. the buildings were simple but unique at the same time. passed by a student hostel too. then we passed mount sophia, as we were walking up a hill. then came that choice again. turn left or walk downhill. we decided to turn left at first, and in our sights were plaza singapura. we just had to keep walking straight, go downhill and we will reach plaza singapura. but we turned back to the junction, and walked downhill instead in the other direction, away from plaza singapura. what a stupid choice you might ask. why walk away and furthur from your destination. oh please.

by walking downhill we were on the exterior of istana, identified by the fences and cameras. but we were on the opposite side of the main gate for istana. while walking downhill, we passed by st margaret's primary school and then we stopped at a shelter for a rest. and behind that shelter was another hill, called mount emily. it was a nice, quiet park. after a few puffs of the cigarettes, we decided to venture into mount emily. once again, decision making time. we either walk the path down or walk the path up. walking dow will most probably lead us to town area, while walking up will lead us to unchartered terriority. we chose up instead of down, leading us furthur from our destination. at the top of mount emily there was a playground. now how cool is that, a playground on a hill. we played on see-saws and swings, where three of us challenged a caucasian girl, around 16 to 18 years old, on who could swing higher. she beat all of us, and she had nice legs. the sun was already setting, and that provide the most beautiful backdrop. picture this, in the background is the clear sun setting, followed by trees illuminated by the sunrays and giving this warm look on the leaves, and fardly, or someone, sitting on the swing in the foreground. a picture would be awesome. but, oh wells.

we said our goodbyes to the girl, walked down the hill and entered emily street. awesome houses too. we felt like we were in another country. suddenly, we were shocked. we came across a large group of indians, those gatherings on their off day. though we know they would always gather on sunday evenings, but why around that area. we found out we have walked so far that we were more closer to little india than orchard! we quickly breezed through that area and entered mackarene road. just a short street, round a bend and we saw something familiar. the fences of the istana. so we werent completely lost. but when we exit mackarene road, we were more surprised. right in front of us was kk women's hospital! yes folks, from city hall to bukit timah where kk women's hospital was. we have strayed damn far.

not to worry, we continued on with the walk. the turns striked again. but we had a little help from a pedestrian. after crossing the traffic light, we could walk straight to god knows where or turn left uphill to god knows where too. sufi asked this indian lady where was orchard and she said to turn left and walk up. so finally, we turned left. and we experience the most beautiful thing so far during the journey. a couple of trees had tiny pink flowers blooming and falling to the ground. but picture sakuras in japan, when the flowers bloom and fall slowly to the ground. and that happened in front of our eyes. i was literally jumpping up and down as it was kind of breath-taking. so we proceeded upwards and came another pretty sight. red coloured hand-sized leaves from a tree was scattered on the ground. it felt very european, as it is seldom to have those kind of leaves in singapore. by then, we were on cavenagh road. on our left was still the istana though, and our right were condos. we saw a white rabbit set loose on the field of a condo, an aftermath of an accident where the fences of a private housing were brought down by a vehicle and there was remains of the window glasses scattered around. finally, we went up a unique bridge, crossed over an expressway and lastly, entered cuppage road. which meant we have finally arrived at town, just behind centrepoint. that was the last part of our journey and we proceeded to meet denyse and atiqah at cineleisure.

the turns. what an evening. if you had properly read through, we only turned left twice. mostly heading right or straight uphill. it all started at smu, where we could walk straight to plaza singapura but turned right instead. then at sophia road, where we already had plaza singapura in sights, but turned back and walked furthur away. at mount emily, we could have walked downhill and end up in town, but we chose to explore uphill and found a playground with a beautiful backdrop.

now back to the first paragraph, about the person choosing to walk out the back. the person is like fardly, sufi and i, where we decided to choose the different path instead of walking down a path that is definite. we saw and experienced new beautiful scenes where isnt populated and destroyed. now that is the best decision the person made. but he too made the worst decision. he left his camera at home by walking out the backdoor, like us not having a single camera on us. why did we need the camera. we could have taken dozens of pictures. every now and then during the journey, we would complain about not having a single camera on us, especially a dslr. we could have snap shots of the sunset, the playground, the flowers falling to the ground, the red leaves, the unique bridge over the expressway and many more. what a waste. i am so going back there one day, with a dslr i hope.

the turns. a journey that could have took 10 minutes of walking from city hall to orchard, ended up being a walk around istana and reaching our destination an hour plus later. but with great company, i dont mind doing the escapade again with sufi and fardly. thanks guys.

cheers.
